Benchmark Stars to Understand Mass-Loss of Supergiants and AGB stars
5-8 Sep 2016 Meudon (France)

The Betelgeuse Workshop 2016

The "Betelgeuse Workshop 2016” will take place at Paris Observatory's CIAS located at Meudon Observatory, France, on 5-8 September 2016.

- Session 1 should give an overview of the different aspects of mass loss in evolved stars, and RSGs in particular. All participants will therefore have a common understanding of the most relevant questions, both from the theory/modeling and observational points of view. The presentations should last 15 minutes + 10 minutes questions. We propose speakers for the different topics in the attached program.

- Session 2 is dedicated to a presentation of state-of-the-art recent (or ongoing) observational programs and modeling results through short and straight-to-the-point presentations. They should be one or two slides only. Every participant can contribute, and we foresee most of the time for active discussions following the presentations (including e.g. the possible extensions/complementary observations/…). Please tell us if you wish to contribute so that we can better organize the session.

- Session 3 will serve to discuss future observing/modeling programs. We will address the different techniques available, the possibility to propose large program(s),...

As we will be only ~24 participants, everyone is expected to actively contribute to the discussions.

A welcome desk will be available on Monday 5/9 morning at CIAS from 11:00 to 12:30.

The workshop schedule is the following:
- Monday 5/9: 14:00 - 18:00
- Tuesday 6/9, Wednesday 7/9: 09:00 - 12:30, 14:00 - 18:00
- Thursday 8/9: 09:00 - 12:30, 14:00 - 16:00
